Are You "In" or "Aought"?

July 27, 2010 2 min read 2 Comments

No, I'm not talking about belly-buttons, but about

"Project Runway"!

.

The Emmy Award-nominated reality show kicks off its eighth season this Thursday with host Heidi Klum deciding which designers will be "in" or "aought" as they seek the top prize of $100,000 in financial backing of their own line.

. . I'm usually not a TV viewer, but I'll admit I did watch season 5 when Detroit based designer, Joe Faris, competed for his chance to be "in" and sew up the big prize. Joe won Challenge 6: Good Queen Fun, where the designers were given the outrageous task of creating over-the-top outfits for drag queens.  Joe concocted a bedazzled, pink sailor's costume for drag queen, Varla Jean Merman earning him immunity for the following challenge. Joe was eventually "oughted" in Challenge 10 when he was charged with a fashion makeover to transition a college grad into the career world.  It was a tough task because he not only had to please the judges, but the graduate and her mother as well -  and since Joe's forte is sportswear, the tailoring on his constructed suit finally did him in. Overall though, Joe fared very well, ending up in the top five finalists and eventually showing his collection for New York Fashion Week and before millions of Project Runway viewers. . [caption id="attachment_4544" align="alignright" width="186" caption="Double D Ranch's 'Yoakum Jean'"][/caption] A little background on Joe Faris:  Some of you may remember Joe from his days here at Double D Ranch™.  Joe had a big hand in helping us kick-start our t-shirt division and designed our denim line from late 2006 to 2008.  He did a great job and his "Gunslinger Jean" is still a staple in our denim offerings. . Well, if you are a "Project Runway"groupie or a reality show fanatic, you can catch the season premiere on Lifetime Television this Thursday with celebrity judge, Selma Blair.   The show expands to a 90-minute format and to 17 competitors — the most of any season —  and as usual they will face inventive challenges, unexpected eliminations and other surprises along the way. .

Will you be watching?
